Something new at school
We have several new things in our school this
year. If you have not been in to see them we invite
you to come by and take a peek. We have a new
floor, drink machines, teachers, students, and
a new nurse.
The new tile floor was added while we were away
during fall break. The colorful tiles were put
down on two sides of the building in what the workers
called a short amount of time. The rainbow, or
crayon colored, tile was exciting to see when we
came back to school. The Second grade side and
the Third and Fourth grade side of the building
was completed. Plans are for the Kindergarten/
First grade side to be taken care of during the
Christmas break. The inner areas, which include
the library and music room, will have new carpet
put down at the same time.
The drink machines were put in shortly after the
start of the year. Milk, Minute Maid, and water
are offered in the machines. Students may make their |
purchases during scheduled times. Students are
not allowed to buy things from the machines during
lunchtime. Several students appear to enjoy the
selections.
We have two new teachers at our school this year. Mrs.
Elmore is teaching in First grade. She was here
two years ago for a short amount of time working
in both First and Third grades. Mr. Simmons is
teaching Third grade. He did his student teaching
in Mrs. Covington’s room several years ago. He
has taught at other schools in the county. We
hope that they both feel welcomed to our faculty.
As school years come and go so do students. We
hope that everyone who has come to us so far is
enjoying our company and our school.
Our new nurse is Mrs. King. We really appreciate
her fixing us up when we have scraps and taking
care of us when we feel ill.

If YOU believe, then you CAN
achieve!
On October 28, Uffelman Elementary had its Fall
Family Literacy Night. This year’s theme was “Hats
Off to Reading.” This night was planned to show
how important reading is by providing all kinds
of cool activities that promote reading.
Face painting, magic shows, and apple bobbing were
just a few of the activities that happened. The
Putnam County library had a table set up for information. The
Monterey police department was also here. We even
had a few of our favorite characters walking around |
handing out balloons, handshakes, and hugs.
Ice cream was served in the cafeteria as a way
to keep things really cool. Throughout the night
door prizes were awarded. All of the prizes had
something to do with reading. We appreciate all
the help from the many people who volunteered their
time, help, and materials.
Congrats to those who figured out who were our
clown and Franklin!!!!
